My goal is to provide a secure Internet environment for everyone in the IoT era. I am researching on how to provide patches for vulnerabilities.

Forcing automatic updates for devices,
Tackling a long-standing theme at the age of 50

I have been involved in the management of ASCIInet, an independent ISP and OCN, and have continued my career in the same field after moving to a new company. However, at NTT East, I became an IPv6 promoter by choice, and moved into a different role for the first time. Having reached the 50-year-old milestone, I decided to take this opportunity to tackle a long-standing challenge of mine: "provide a secure environment for people who can't deal with vulnerability fixes." As the IoT progresses, the number of such people will increase exponentially. I would like to prepare for an environment where everyone can use the system without being aware of the updates. We will probably require manufacturers to have an automatic update function. However, it is a broad issue, from technology to law, and I thought that only this graduate school covering all areas of security could provide a solution. The doctoral course has been running for eight years and has a solid academic performance, so I feel that I can conduct my research with confidence.

Thinking about how to regulate business activities,
from the perspective of both "soft laws" and "hard laws"

Until now, when I had to deal with the law in my work, I only studied that particular law. Now that I have time to learn the field systematically, I would like to examine it from various perspectives. For example, whether business activities should be regulated by traditional laws, or whether it is possible to do so with soft laws, such as ISO.
In the case of the PhD course, where the research theme is clear from the beginning, it is natural to choose a graduate school by its supervisor rather than by the name of the school. Everyone, including Professor Goto, the director of IISEC to whom I was assigned, has a wealth of practical experience. I think IISEC is a great place to do more in-depth research as you are guided by faculty members who know the industry well.
