Research into cryptographic protocols that can be processed instantaneously and used to identify individuals while ensuring anonymity, is also important for the practical application of electronic voting, such as in elections.

I am working on a crypto-system that can efficiently perform the complex calculations required for personal authentication.

We sometimes see news reports about breaking encryption by hacking/cracking... In fact, in most cases these were issues with the implementation of the encryption and allowed vulnerabilities to be exploited. The encryption itself is very difficult to break. I am particularly interested in the use of cryptography for personal authentication. Electronic signatures, which can identify individual differences and remain anonymous, currently require longer signatures as the number of users increases. This is not practical because it increases the amount of calculation, slows down the processing speed, and results in longer waiting times. I am working on improving cryptographic protocols to avoid situations where the computational complexity increases in proportion to the number of people and the length of the signature. In order to make electronic voting practical, such as in elections, I believe that it is important to have a personal authentication system with fast processing.

Inspiration from motivated fellow students
New discoveries through interaction with mature students

This graduate school does not have undergraduate programmes, thus all students come from different background and are truly motivated. There are a lot of mature students, and it is helpful to hear their perspectives and opinions based on their work experience. It was also a great experience to be able to give a presentation at an overseas conference. Time flies so quickly in the first year that I was not so sure if I would have enough time for research. Now I am revisiting the idea of efficient calculation.
