I would like to propose a system to quantitatively calculate the risk of information security incidents, such as the amount of damage caused by information leaks.

In addition to qualitative assessments, quantitative assessments are used for more accurate risk analysis

With the ISMS conformity assessment system, there is now to some extent, a mechanism in place to check the risks associated with information security. However, these are mainly qualitative assessments. As a company, you want your security measures to be cost effective. Therefore, I am currently working on the concept of quantifying the impact of a possible security incident in terms of a specific amount of damage. I think one of the benefits of studying at IISEC is that I gained a broader perspective through the exchange of information with many people. Thanks to this, I started to ask myself "Is is okay to use the conventional method?"

I realised that it is important to consider the cost of both external and internal damage at the same time

My supervisor Prof Uchida advised me that, "For example, if it's a virus, the loss of time spent on in-house recovery should be included in the cost of the damage." I was focusing on the external damage, so this perspective was very helpful for me.

The key is to set detailed goals that are easy to achieve and use your time effectively

Many of our students, including myself, are working professionals. During the day I'm always busy with work. I try to break my study goals down into smaller chunks so that I can achieve them in a short time. It's also important to make the most of your time, even if it's just half an hour on the way to work or school, to organise your thoughts.
