Student Interviews

Maintaining an ISMS is harder than introducing one. In response to such comments, I am researching ways to enable efficient operation.

Practical lessons that have increased my interest in security beyond my expectations

It is interesting to note that IISEC's classes are linked to the real world in real time, such as "how to create a new ethics in the age of the Internet". There are also a number of practical lessons, such as the "Secure Systems Exercises," where we can hack into a hypothetical website or server to find out its vulnerabilities. I was involved in security in my work, through building internal systems and creating websites for external use. Coming to IISEC has allowed me to learn security systematically and to organise the knowledge I have acquired at work.

What's the difference between companies that have a successful ISMS introduction and those that do not?

My current research theme is the operational framework after implementing an ISMS. Both inside and outside the company, we hear people say, "We have obtained ISMS certification, but it is difficult to maintain it." I would like to sort out what the issues are and come up with ways to solve them. Through a survey of companies, I will be exploring the differences between companies that are successfully operating the system and those that have not.

Utilising my systematic knowledge and diverse perspectives on information security in my work

At IISEC, I have gained diverse perspectives through interaction with professors and fellow students from all walks of life. The ability to have this flexible perspective along with new contacts has been a great asset. I hope to use the knowledge and flexibility I acquired in IISEC to achieve results in my work.
