IISEC is where you can learn a wide range of basics about the security required for the information policies of local governments and discuss real issues.

It's not just about technology
Human behaviour management is also an important factor

I am studying information security comprehensively in order to examine the handling of personal data, information leakage prevention, and legal issues in local authorities. Before entering IISEC, I assumed that information security is primarily a technical field. However, after a year of study, I understand that human behaviour management is also important, and I feel that this is a familiar issue. I would like to deepen my knowledge with hints from discussions on the legal theory lecture of ISS square, and use this knowledge to research municipal information policy.

How will local government change in the future as our information society advances?

I actively participate in ISS square, where we collaborate with other graduate schools and companies, and conduct research by theme. I joined the "legal and ethics study group", which is closely related to my research field. We discussed the future of an information society. One of the discussions was the loss of some local government census register data in the Great East Japan Earthquake. It was interesting to hear about the expansion of the conversation to include how to safely back up personal information, and the framework for local and national governments to carry data between each other over a wide area.

Discussions with students from diverse backgrounds

There are many opportunities for discussion, both in ISS square and in postgraduate lectures. By listening to other people's opinions and thinking about them, I gradually became able to take part in discussions on topics that were unfamiliar to me, such as information technology. Moreover, the students come from diverse backgrounds, including working professionals from different companies, young university graduates, and students from abroad. Discussing with such people has broadened my own horizons.
