Postgraduate Programmes

Master's Programme

The purpose of the Master's programme is to impart profound knowledge from a broad perspective. We also support students to cultivate research and development skills in a major subject, or the advanced skills required for a highly specialised profession.

Doctoral Programme

The purpose of the Doctoral programme is to enable students to engage in independent research activities as a researcher in a major subject. We also support students to cultivate the advanced research abilities necessary to engage in highly specialised work, and provide rich academic knowledge.

Institute of Information Security, Curriculum Development and Implementation Policy (Curriculum Policy)

(Educational Objective)

The aim is to promote specialised core research on information security and to systematically train personnel involved in the research and development, design, build, and operation of information security systems and information security management.

(Curriculum Policy)

Based on the Diploma Policy, both the Master's and Doctoral programmes aim to establish a comprehensive information security education curriculum that integrates practical work and research and development. With a team of well-balanced faculty members of former corporate workers and researchers, we offer a systematic curriculum based on the following principles, with a focus on industry-academia-government collaboration.

Master's Programme
  • We are committed to accepting students from a variety of academic backgrounds in the Master's programme. The curriculum is designed to enable each student to study advanced knowledge of information security in an interdisciplinary manner, according to the student's own research theme and problem awareness, as well as to acquire basic knowledge and grasp the latest trends. A variety of subjects are arranged in a cross-disciplinary manner from the perspective of information security. These subjects include cryptography, the Internet, information systems, software and other security-related technologies, information science, risk assessment, management theory, organisational governance, information morale, social and legal systems.
  • We will update the content of each course to reflect changes in the field, and continue to examine new and discontinued modules.
  • We provide compulsory modules to develop a common image of the whole picture of information security and to foster a broad perspective.
  • In the two-year programme, four courses are designed to serve as guidelines for module selection in order to clarify the knowledge required for each student's research. These courses are "Mathematical Science", "System Design", "Security/Risk Management", and "Cyber Security and Governance".
  • In consideration of mature students in a full-time employment, research guidance and classes are also held in the evenings and on Saturdays, in accordance with Article 14 of the "Special Provisions of the Graduate School Establishment Standards".
  • We provide opportunities for Master's and Doctoral students to interact with each other, through compulsory modules and research guidance.
  • We offer a wide range of optional programmes through inter-university and industry-academia partnerships that can be used to meet the interests and objectives of students. The aim is to motivate students to take the initiative in their studies and research, and to foster a broader perspective and a spirit of collaboration.
Doctoral Programme
  • The doctoral programme aims to foster a broad perspective with the ability to lead the future of this field, using the latest trends in the field of information security as a basis. In order for students to have an objective view of their area of specialisation and research, we offer seminar courses in which students are also able to receive research guidance from academic staff in different fields.
  • We strive to enhance our collaborative programmes and joint research with other universities, companies, and institutions. The aim is to motivate students to take the initiative in their studies and research, and to foster a broader perspective and the spirit of collaboration.
