IISEC is a place where you can research whilst having contact from the real world. I am researching secure development methods for Android applications.

Aiming for secure software development

At a technical college, I studied mainly software, and also programmed as a hobby and entered company-sponsored contests. Through my experience, I became interested in the development environments used to make software secure, and entered this graduate school where I can specialise in security. I am currently researching how to develop secure Android applications while reducing the burden on developers. I have also received a wide range of knowledge about information technology, such as networks and operating systems, which has broadened my way of thinking. For example, I am thinking to experiment with what I have learnt from the OS lectures in other fields.

The Graduate school that connects knowledge and society

As I wish to be an engineer, I focused on technical subjects in my first year. In my second year I broadened my interests to include legal subjects such as personal information and intellectual property. I have been offered a job at a venture company that deals with personal information, and I will be able to use what I have learnt immediately at work. The "Information Security Special Lectures" in the autumn term of the first year was also a very impressive module. Through the professor's contacts, prominent figures from the industry are invited to give lectures on the latest developments. It was very informative for me, as I had no full-time work experience, to hear the real voices and experiences from the workplace.

Postgraduate experience with many working professionals is an advantage whilst job hunting

IISEC is also characterised by the fact that many of our seniors and fellow students are working professionals, so we can learn about the current situation of their companies. Perhaps because of this environment, at a job interview, I was surprised when they told me, "You are used to talking to older people." IISEC has a small class size, which allows you to receive careful guidance from your professors and to learn practical knowledge from your seniors and classmates. I also took part in a security competition with a team of my classmates, and I have found that the more proactive you are, the more you get out of it.
